Regensburg, Germany July 30, 1945 Dear Pudge, Many thanks for copying off Marnie's letters. They've been coming quite regularly. Yesterday I walked all over this town and found it quite interesting. It's a regular medieval town with many narrow streets. I haven't any idea yet of where all I was or where anything is that I saw because I think I walked in circles. I wore some new shoes and managed to work up a nice blister from an ill-fitting sock. Down the Danube River is a large building, the Valhalla or German Hall of Fame, which I am going out to see some day. This outfit certainly does some funny things. With as little as we have to do, they work all day Saturday and Sunday morning. The term "work" is a misnomer. We just sit and look around. I am finally settled in my room at the hotel and it is very nice. It faces out toward the park and overlooks an intersection. Although the number is 29 it actually is on about the 3rd floor so it is up high enough that the noise is not disturbing. Oddly enough, instead of all rooms on the first floor being numbered 1 and the second floor 2, OK, these just start in and run consecutively without regard for series. I have about a 3/4 bed with sheets and a beautiful comforter quilted in large squares about six inches across. In addition is a lounge couch, a table and two chairs, a large wardrobe and a washbowl with constant hot water. Haven't found out where you take a bath in the place yet. I'm still trying to get to where I can do a water color, but I haven't got it yet. In this connection, please look in the books from California and find the ones by Eliot O'Hara. One was called "Making the Brush Behave," the other was "Making Water Colors Behave." If you can't find them, buy new copies and send them to me. There is also a third book by this same artist but I don't recall the name. It's a later book. Please buy it too. Haven't had a chance to inquire here about film development, but I hope to have more success with it here than before. I took one photo yesterday from the hotel. Things are pretty dull around here and it seems to be influencing me. I'm going to close for now. Love, Bob |
