Paris, France

January 2, 1946

Dear Mom,

Well, the New Year arrived quietly for me as with considerable improvisation, I was developing some of the films I took with Helen's camera - Alas! My prediction of last summer came true. You remember when I rushed off to the Riviera I said I was probably using one roll over again! Well, so I did, and two sets of good negatives quite thoroughly cancel out each other. The other strips have so far turned out well but I am not finished yet. One strip, of course, will now be blank. I also developed some larger pictures I took here but didn't give them enough development. I may be able to get a print from them when I get home or I'll take them over if I get a chance. Yesterday I made some copies of the painting which goes on exhibit tomorrow in the student show and also some others. I had to work entirely by guess but they seem to be a little over-exposed and over developed. However, I can probably get a print from them.

Today I tried to get some info on going home only to find that the Reinforcement Depot to which I was to have reported has folded up and now I am assigned to one at Namur, Belgium. I wrote today to find out if I can get sent home from here, but I doubt if I will have any success since it is rather late. I won't know before next week at the earliest.

If I go to the depot I'll probably have to hang around there about a week as I understand they have a shipment about the 19th of the month.

Anyway, I think you had better discontinue any further mail as I doubtless will leave Paris on the 12th or 13th and anything you write after you get this will probably just trail me around.

I received this week your letter from the 19th Dec. along with Aunt Jennie's Christmas Card and note and a Christmas Card from Margaret Landers. Sorry to hear of Johnny's bad luck with his hand.

My previous letter from last week will probably arrive with this. I carried it in my pocket for a couple of days before remembering to mail it. And then it was time for New Year's holidays, so I don't expect it made very good time.

It's getting a little colder now. Still much rain, but no snow.

Love,

Bob

Hope my big pictures reached you ok.
